Last month we wrote about how seven Iranians — the director and six participants — were arrested for the “crime” of making a video celebrating and dancing to Pharrell Williams’ “Happy”.

The seven are out on bail, but this week there is an unpleasant sequel….

Iran is in the midst of World Cup euphoria, joyously cheering the national football team’s valiant performance against Argentina. The London-based Ajam Band created an anthem and video for the occasion, “Iran Gole”, featuring Iranians inside and outside the Islamic Republic.

Three participants in the video are no longer celebrating. They are in prison.

A province police chief, Rahmatollah Taheri, said a videographer and two participants had been arrested in Shahroud in northern Iran because of the “vulgar” film.

No specific crime was reported but some women in the film appear without the mandatory hijab covering their heads.
