Ahead of a scheduled ban in January 2027, European Union imports of Russian liquefied natural gas are plunging.

EU imports fell 46% month-on-month to their lowest volume during Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Belgium eliminated imports entirely.

In July, 100% of Belgium’s LNG imports came from Russia.

France, Spain, and the Netherlands are the remaining importers.

Amid fuel shortages because of Ukraine’s counter-attacks, Russia is importing supplies from more countries.

In August, Russia imported gasoline from India for the first time. Now Moscow is relying on South Korea and Turkey for imports, reports the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air.

Oil imports surged to 172,000 metric tons in August, more than seven times the previous monthly high.

Ukrainian strikes on the Black Sea port at Novorossiysk in southwest Russia interrupted exports for nine consecutive days, the longest disruption during Moscow’s full-scale invasion.

The Black Sea port at Tuapse, Russia’s fourth-largest exporter before 2022, did not load a single cargo of oil products for the third consecutive month after being struck by drones in May.

Five civilians were murdered and at least 67 injured by a Russian strike on a shopping center in Pavlohrad in the Dnipropetrovsk region on Thursday.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky posted, “The world sees what Russia is doing. There will be support for Ukraine. 100% of our attention is focused on this.”

Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha noted Russia is deliberately targeting places where civilians gather, seeking to inflict maximum casualties, spread fear, and coerce Ukraine into concessions.

“Sanctions must hit Russia’s weapons production and the supply chains that keep it running. Russian revenues financing this terror must be cut,” Sybiha said. He urged Ukraine’s partners to provide additional air-defense systems and interceptor missiles without delay.

ORIGINAL ENTRY: Canada and Ukraine have signed a 100-year partnership agreement deepening cooperation in defense, energy, technology, trade, and reconstruction.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney signed the agreement during Zelensky’s visit on Thursday.

The Ukrainian leader posted:

We’re talking today about a winter support package and energy. This is very important. Today, Canada is making a significant decision — a very important aid package for air defense. There is a major global shortage of such systems and the missiles for them.

Zelensky said the Canadian commitments amounted to more than $2 billion, including a government package of more than $1 billion for missiles for Patriot air defense systems, munitions for F-16 fighter jets, and drone co-production.

Canada is training 21 Ukrainian pilots, and will transfer 30% of its production to Ukraine under the drone deal.

Carney posted, “Canada will always stand with Ukraine”:

Ukraine’s cause — freedom, democracy, sovereignty — is our cause.

When peace comes, and it will come, Canada will be there.
