Poland’s President Karol Nawrocki with Donald Trump in the White House, Washington D.C., September 3, 2025
EA-Erich McElroy VideoCast: Trump’s Threat to US Democracy…and to the World
I joined the Polish outlet TVP World on Tuesday to discuss the mystery of the Trump camp’s sudden animosity towards Poland.
The White House abruptly cancelled the deployment of 4,000 troops of an armoured brigade without consulting the Poles or giving a reason. On Tuesday — after this interview — Vice President J.D. Vance waffled that it was a “standard delay in rotation” while declaring, “We’re talking about shifting some resources around in a way that maximizes American security.”
Meanwhile, the Trumpists arranged for a visa for Poland’s former Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro, wanted in Warsaw on 26 counts of misuse of public funds. Ziobro was sheltering in Hungary, but his extradition to Poland was imminent after Donald Trump’s ally, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, was replaced by Péter Magyar.
While highlighting the Trump threat, I emphasize that Warsaw is not isolated.
Poland has a very strong security apparatus. It is also one of 32 members of NATO, and the other 30 members of NATO, if not necessarily the US, are reliably committed to Polish security.
