In a 23-minute VideoCast, I chatted with Times Radio’s Jo Crawford on Wednesday about the latest in US politics.
I analyze next Tuesday’s election for New York City Mayor, where Zohran Mamdani — Ugandan-born of Indian descent, Muslim, and a democratic socialist — has energized the race with proposals to deal with the cost of living, housing, transport, education, and other social issues.
Ahead by at least 10% in all polls, can he hold off former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, whom he defeated in June’s Democratic primary, and Curtis Sliwa, the founder of the Guardian Angels in 1979?
And what would a Mayor Mamdani mean not only for New York City but for the US?
Jo and I also consider Donald Trump’s latest attempt to escape accountability. He is seeking to quash his 34-count felony conviction over his $130,000 payoff to porn star Stormy Daniels, keeping her quiet about their sexual encounter in 2006, weeks before the 2016 Presidential election.
Trump is this curious contradiction. On the one hand, he’s the bully, the aggressor, the “Art of the Deal”. On the other hand, he’s insecure as hell.
At the end of the day, he’s a bully who wants to be liked. And it drives him crazy.
