EA-Ukraine VideoCast: A Split in Trump Administration Over Putin’s Invasion?
I joined Ukrainian journalist Daniel Tkiie on Monday to analyze the latest developments in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
We begin with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky’s meeting next week with Donald Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The encounter will be a chance to prod Trump towards a ceasefire of Russia’s invasion. However, Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner has signalled that the priority is economic deals — deals which he says are held up by Ukraine’s refusal to give up more territory.
We then consider possible pressure on Vladimir Putin, including from China and India, to end the invasion amid mounting economic costs and instability.
Noting that Putin is likely to persist through the winter, hoping that airstrikes will break Ukraine, we look at the status of international support for Kyiv.
And I explain how the Kremlin tried to manipulate Donald Trump by bankrolling the wedding party of his son Donald Jr.
