EA on India’s News 9: Can Europe Defend Ukraine Without Trump?
As national leaders addressed the General Assembly in New York, I joined Poland’s TVP World on Tuesday morning to assess if the UN still can play a useful role in dealing with conflicts and helping societies.
I note that the Security Council is paralyzed, notably because of the veto power held by the five permanent members. However, I consider the General Assembly as a forum for all countries, and I examine the valuable work of UN agencies on issues from global health to refugees to accountability.
Host Sascha Fahrbach and I also preview important meetings on the sidelines of the Assembly in the context of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the US War on Iran, and other conflicts.
I analyze Russia’s staged elections, evaluating the possibility that Vladimir Putin — having ensured a record number of Duma seats for his United Russia Party — will order a full or partial mobilization to spur his stalled invasion.
And I analyse a dysfunctional Trump Administration as talks with Poland about defense posture are postponed.
