I joined PoliticsJOE’s Ava Santini on Thursday for a 23-minute analysis of the historic advance of the European Union and “associate member” Canada — even as Donald Trump ranted that he might cut off all trade with Europe.

I explain both the political symbolism and the practical effect of the Canada-EU announcement, marked by speeches by European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to the European Parliament.

I look wider to a historic realignment of relations, spurred by the chaos and threats of Trump, and consider how far it might go.
