Former Ukraine Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov and Elon Musk

EA-Ukraine VideoCast: Could Kyiv Hit Russia With Ballistic Missiles By End of 2026?

I joined Ukrainian journalists Daniel Tkiie and Sofia Nazarenko on Thursday to analyze the interaction between Russia’s invasion, Ukraine’s domestic politics, and possible interference by Elon Musk.

The 23-minute discuss Russia’s escalating ballistic missile and drone strikes on Ukraine’s civilians and energy infrastructure, especially in and near Kyiv. Looking towards the winter, I assess:

I think this is the last real big attempt by Russia to break Ukraine and force its surrender.

I consider the possibility of Vladimir Putin finally pursuing full mobilization despite the domestic repercussions.

Then I consider Ukraine’s domestic politics as former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov maintains his challenge over his dismissal by President Volodymyr Zelensky.

I assess the effect of Fedorov’s call for elections during wartime and consider reports that he may soon visit the US.

I note the possible benefit of getting Musk’s consent to use Starlink for drone strikes inside Russia, including on ballistic missile sites.

However, I note the concern that Musk may be considering an intervention with Fedorov to undermine or even replace Zelensky.

I don’t think you mix political interference with getting US support for Ukraine. If Fedorov can get support, great. If it looks like interference, this could be a poisoned chalice.
