UPDATE 1508 GMT:

The toll has risen to at least 22 civilians murdered and at least 116 injured by Russian attacks on and near Kyiv overnight.

In the city, at least 15 people were killed and 87 injured, including six children.

Seven civilians were slain and 29 wounded in the town of Vyshneve, around 2 km southwest of Kyiv.

UPDATE 1452 GMT:

For the first time, Ukraine has struck Russia’s largest oil refinery.

The Omsk refinery, nearly 2,500 km (1,550 miles) from Ukraine’s border, was hit and set afire overnight.

Preliminary information indicates the ELOU-AVT-11 primary oil refining unit was hit. The unit has a design capacity of 8.4 million metric tons of crude oil per year.

Omsk processes more than 21 million metric tons of crude oil per year. It produces a wide range of fuels, lubricants, and petrochemical products, including supplies for the Russian military.

Ukraine struck other energy infrastructure and military targets inside Russia and in occupied Crimea.

Drones hit the Yaroslavl oil refinery and the Yaroslavl oil pumping and dispatch station. A strike on an oil terminal at the port of Vysotsk in the Leningrad region in northwest Russia disabled two oil loading arms and hit three petroleum product storage tanks.

UPDATE 0656 GMT:

The toll has risen to 11 civilians murdered by Russia’s strikes, with one of the wounded dying in hospital.

Air defenses intercepted 37 of 68 missiles and 326 of 351 drones fired by Russia overnight, but 29 missiles and 18 UAVs hit 34 locations.

ORIGINAL ENTRY: At least 10 civilians have been killed and at least 56 injured by Russian missile and drone strikes on Ukraine’s capital Kyiv and the surrounding region.

A residential building was partially destroyed between the 5th and 9th floors in the Podilskyi district. Residential multi-story buildings were also struck in the Obolonskyi and Holosiivskyi districts, and three apartment blocks targeted in the Darnytskyi district.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said “non-residential buildings”, several garages, and a warehouse were destroyed. Homes, businesses, and other civilian infrastructure was damaged in the capital’s suburbs.

Nine civilians were murdered and 46 wounded in the city. Another person was slain and 10 injured in communities just outside the capital. The toll is expected to rise.

Explosions were reported around 1:40 a.m. with subsequent waves of strikes at 2:10 a.m. and 3:15 a.m. Thousands of residents headed to underground metro stations for shelter.

Air raid alerts were issued for almost all of Ukraine’s regions. Poland scrambled fighter jets to protect the country’s airspace.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky warned in his nightly address, “Intelligence once again indicates that the Russians are preparing a new massive strike. This is typical of Putin, right after America’s Independence Day and before the NATO Summit in Ankara [on Wednesday].”

Last Thursday the Russians murdered 30 civilians and wounded almost 100 as they try to break resistance in Kyiv.
