EA’s Cormac Smith joined Pakistan TV on Monday night to analyze the significance of a new Prime Minister for the UK, both at home and abroad.
Cormac explains that Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s priority is “delivery on his words” in a “divided country”: “Over the past 10 years, Brexit has broken Britain.”
He evaluates the economic and social situation and then looks abroad at Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as he considers UK defense spending.
ORIGINAL ENTRY: I joined Talk TV’s Petrie Hosken on Monday night to evaluate the position abroad of Brexit Britain under Prime Minister Andy Burnham, who assumed power from Keir Starmer earlier in the day.
While noting that Burnham’s priority will likely be domestic challenges, I explain how his appointments such as Chancellor John Healey and Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband point to his approach to foreign policy.
I note the symbolism of Burnham’s initial calls to foreign leaders, Donald Trump and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky. I examine the UK’s position over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine; the US-Israel Wars on Iran, Lebanon, and Gaza; and relations with the European Union. And I consider how much breathing space Burnham will have from efforts, notably by the Trump camp, to undermine the UK Government.
