Ukraine’s air defenses downed 124 of 144 drones fired by Russia overnight, but 19 struck 11 locations.

One drone crashed in Romania on Saturday near a river on the Ukraine border. More than 200 people were evacuated, and gas supplies were cut as a precautionary measure. No casualties were reported.

UPDATE 0653 GMT:

Today is the 40th anniversary of the nuclear accident at Chornybyl in northern Ukraine.

Ukraine President Voloydmyr Zelensky marked the occasion, summarizing the disaster, the protective measures, and today’s threat from Russian attacks.

Through its war, Russia is once again bringing the world to the brink of a man-made disaster – Russian-Iranian “shaheds” regularly fly over the plant, and one of them struck the confinement last year.

ORIGINAL ENTRY: At least 10 civilians were murdered and at least 67 injured by Russia’s strikes across Ukraine on Saturday.

The Russians fired 47 missiles and 619 drones. They focused on the city of Dnipro, with 20 hours of attacks, but also struck the Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Odesa, and Kyiv regions.

Air defenses intercepted 580 drones and 30 missiles.

In Dnipro, four bodies were recovered early Saturday from the rubble of a collapsed apartment block. Among the 27 injured are a 9-year-old boy, a 17-year-old girl, and two police officers.

The Russians continued attacks throughout the day on the residential area, murdering another person. Another 29 people were wounded, including three children.

Deputy Mayor Yurii Yandulskyi, another city administration official, and specialists were “almost killed” in a “double-tap” attack that targeted rescuers responding to an initial strike, said Mayor Boris Filatov.

Three more civilians were killed across the Dnipropetrovsk region.

In the Chernihiv region in the north, a Russian missile and drone attack on the city of Nizhyn killed two men, aged 30 and 60. At least seven people were injured in the region.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, during a visit to Azerbaijan, posted:

It is important that the world does not remain silent about what is happening and that this Russian war in Europe is not overshadowed by the war in Iran. “Shaheds” [Iran-made attack drones] kill people all the same, and protection against cruise missiles and ballistic threats must be equally reliable.

We count on the timely implementation of each of our political agreements to strengthen air defense. And it is vital that pressure on Russia over this war does not stop for a single day – there must be no pauses in sanctions against Russia for each of these strikes. Life needs protection.
