How Viktor Orbán Is Fighting – And Losing – The Digital Battle In Hungary
I chatted with Talk TV’s Petrie Hosken on Monday night about the victory of Peter Magyar and the Tisza Party in Hungary’s elections, ending the 16-year rule of pro-Kremlin, hard-right Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
I note the boost for the security of Ukraine and Europe, and the disappontment for both the Kremlin and the Trump camp.
I evaluate Russia’s cautious reaction to the loss of its ally Orbán, who had blocked the European Union’s €90 billion loan to Ukraine and further sanctions on Moscow.
I detail the setback for the plan of the Trumpists, notably Vice President J.D. Vance, to undermine the EU and install hard-right governments in European capitals.
And, cutting against the simplistic narrative of the advance of hard-right populism across the continent, I explain how and why Tisza turned the tide in Hungary.
