Donald Trump’s Show Business “Deal” for Gaza
EA on International Outlets: Gaza Ceasefire — After the Hostages-for-Detainees Exchange
In a 40-minute podcast, I chat with the Irish Examiner’s Mick Clifford about how we finally got to a halt of Israel’s mass killings in Gaza — but why it will be far more difficult to get a lasting arrangement for security and recovery in the Strip.
I take apart the superficial proclamation that Donald Trump brought “peace”. I explain how his blank cheque for Israel’s attacks was torn up on September 9 when the Netanyahu Government struck Qatar in a failed attempt to assassinate Hamas negotiations. Gulf States then manipulated the business interests of Trump and his son-in-law Jared Kushner, as well as the threat to the US position in the region, to get pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
I then take apart the Trump 20-point “plan”, more of a sketch, to highlight the difficulties that are already arising about Israeli withdrawal, Hamas disarmament, and governance and security for Gaza.
