I joined BBC Radio Scotland on Thursday morning to discuss the murder of two Israeli Embassy staff, Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim, in Washington, D.C. the previous night.

I put the killings in the context of antisemitism, Islamophobia, and hate crimes in the US; Israel’s mass killings in Gaza following Hamas’s mass killings of October 7, 2023; and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s announcement of open-ended war, long-term occupation, and forced displacement of civilians from Gaza.

There’s a tragically interesting juxtaposition. Just before these killings in Washington, Benjamin Netanyahu gave a high-profile speech to the nation where he effectively said there will never be a ceasefire in Gaza while he is Prime Minister.
