EA on WION: The Life of Pope Francis and What’s Next for Catholic Church

Soon after the announcement of the death of Pope Francis, I joined India’s WION for an analysis of his life, his legacy, and the future of the Catholic Church.

I review both the Pope’s significant achievements and the cases where he could have done more. I explain his position between the progressive and conservative wings of the Church, and evaluate the potential successors across the wide range of belief and policy.

Scott Lucas is Professor of International Politics at the Clinton Institute, University College Dublin; Professor Emeritus of International Politics at the University of Birmingham; and editor-in-chief of EA WorldView. He is a specialist in US and British foreign policy and international relations, especially the Middle East and Iran.
