As Phase 1 of the Israel-Gaza ceasefire ended on Saturday, with no sign of Phase 2, I joined India’s WION to evaluate why a further agreement is unlikely and whether that means a resumption of Israeli mass killing.
I explain why the Israeli Government is pursuing an extension of Phase 1, hoping to get the return of the remaining 50 to 60 hostages held by Hamas in return for release of Palestinian detainees.
In contrast, Hamas is insisting on a Phase 2 which will include the withdrawal of Israel’s military and the resumption of Palestinian government.
