Ukraine War, Day 1,086: Trump Ends US Support of Kyiv’s Defense v. Russia’s Invasion

UPDATE, FEB 15:

I joined India’s WION on Saturday to examine the latest maneuvers over Ukraine, focusing on Europe’s need to bolster Kyiv as the Trump Administration — effectively supporting Russia — backs away from European security.

I outline the issues about who is at the negotiating table, and the terms of the negotiations such as Ukraine’s relationship with NATO and the status of territory occupied by Russia.

The fear is that Donald Trump is not interested in those issues. He just wants to look good making a deal with Vladimir Putin.

Most of the people in the Trump Administration do not want to be part of a lasting agreement over Ukraine.

ORIGINAL ENTRY, FEB 13: EA’s David Dunn joined BBC Radio Scotland on Thursday morning to analyze Donald Trump ending US support for Ukraine’s defense against Russian invasion.

Listen to Discussion from 2:15.08

The events and statements of yesterday indicate that this deal will be done [between the US and Russia] above the heads of the Ukrainians.

By even taking the 90-minute call, Trump has given a victory to Vladimir Putin, who has been diplomatically isolated as a suspected war criminal.

Rather than putting pressure on Putin, Trump is embracing him and offering concessions.

This has massive implications for Ukraine, which has largely been thrown under the Russian bus, and for European security.
