Donald Trump greets UK politician Nigel Farage during the US Presidential campaign, August 2016

I joined BBC outlets on Wednesday to discuss the “foreign interference” by UK politician Nigel Farage, working for the Trump campaign, in the US Presidential election.

Farage pushed the disinformation that activists of the ruling UK Labour Party were remunerated to help the campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump’s opponent.

In fact, the Labour activists were volunteers and received no payment for their involvement.

Meanwhile, Farage did not mention that he has been prominent in Donald Trump’s camp since summer 2016, when he appeared with the candidate at rallies in states such as Mississippi. It is not known if Farage has been remunerated for his work.

The disinformation ploy worked, seizing headlines in the British press and the BBC and even gaining attention from the New York Times.

So this was my opportunity to take apart the propaganda and to highlight the real “foreign interference”.

Following an interview with a Labour activist who volunteered for the Barack Obama campaign in 2008, I join Gordon Smart to set out the legal position on foreign nationals in US campaign and to explain Farage’s deception.

I begin my discussion with Elliott Webb by turning the Farage-Trump propaganda around:

I am outraged. Outraged to learn that a British politician since 2016 has been working with the campaign of someone running for US President.

I am outraged to learn that Nigel Farage, whom I believe is the leader of the Reform Party and has a nightly program on a leading British news channel, has been working with the Trump campaign all that time.
