Hamas said on Monday night that it had accepted a ceasefire — brokered by Egypt and Qatar — of Israel’s 7-month military operations in Gaza.

Moments later, Israeli officials rejected the news, saying Hamas had agreed a proposal which differed from that which Israel’s Government supported. Then Israel bombed eastern parts of Rafah, where around 1.4 million of Gaza’s 2.3 million population, are sheltering, and occupied the Gazan side of the Rafah crossing with Israel.

I joined Nataliya Vasilyeva, the Jerusalem correspondent for The Telegraph, in a 15-minute conversation with Monocle Radio’s Emma Nelson to unpack the political and military situation.
