A Wagner Group tank in the center of Rostov-on-Don, Russia, June 24, 2023 (Anadolu)
ORIGINAL ENTRY: In a 50-minute special, I spoke with Times Radio’s Henry Bonsu around the week around the world, beginning with the Wagner Group’s mini-rebellion against the Kremlin in Russia.
Chatting just after the deal between Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin and Vladimir Putin, I consider the challenge to Putin’s rule and the effect on his failing invasion of Ukraine.
The second half begins with a look at the travails of the ruling Scottish Nationalist Party, with its rapid loss of competence and legitimacy, and the consequences for both day-to-day governance and the quest for Scotland’s independence.
Then it’s to the US for a review of the situation one year after conservative Supreme Court justices overturned Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to choose over abortion. I consider the damage amid a series of states instituting bans, with the effect on health care for millions of women.
I conclude with a quick explanation of this week’s Paris Climate Finance Summit, considering what has been achieved and how much more needs to be done.
