A protest in Texas against a proposed ban on land ownership by the Chinese state, businesses, or citizens
I joined Monocle 24’s Emma Nelson on Wednesday to discuss the 11 US states considering bans on land ownership by Chinese citizens and companies.
Listen to Discussion from 22:13:
I analyze the motives for the bans, including political exploitation of US-China tensions as well as supposed concerns over security and Chinese control over US food production. I emphasize the difference between restrictions on Chinese state entities and those on individuals.
And I explain the contradiction in Texas, where the proposed ban is accompanied by the welcome of billions of dollars in investment by Chinese firms.
You have people jumping on a bandwagon, and there are individuals like Governor Greg Abbott of Texas who think I can make a big appeal to advance my ambitions with a jab at China.

Is the CIA propaganda war on Iran working? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9McsTQ4IjDI&t=5s
Key takeaway: the protests never managed to garner more than 10,000 persons in any one location within Iran….most of them men. Not comparable to the 2009 post-election protests or even the 2019 fuel protests, certainly for the capital, Tehran.
[Reader’s Note: This long screed by Seymour Hersh is based on 1 — and only 1 — anonymous source. Hersh used a similar tactic to deny the sarin attacks carried out by the Assad regime which killed thousands of Syrians.
Pro-Kremlin activists will promote this, but reader beware.]
How America Took Out The Nord Stream Pipeline: https://seymourhersh.substack.com/p/how-america-took-out-the-nord-stream
The New York Times called it a “mystery,” but the United States executed a covert sea operation that was kept secret—until now
[Editor’s Note: Desperate stuff from commenter — Biden’s reference to ending Nord Stream 2 is to diplomatic steps, including pressure on Germany, to halt the project.
Note how Scholz implicitly supports this with reference to “sanctions” and being “well-prepared” to take “all necessary steps with allies”: “We will be united. We will act together.”]
I expected as much. Here is Biden saying what he would “bring and end to Nord Stream 2”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OS4O8rGRLf8
