She’s tough. And one of the things that can be a good feature in a Vice President is some aggression, some attack-dog qualities.

She has been chosen because, let’s be honest, race as well as her qualities. Don’t underestimate to help carry the African American vote.

ORIGINAL ENTRY, AUGUST 12: I joined Monocle 24’s Georgina Godwin on Wednesday to discuss the selection of Sen. Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee for Vice President.

We discuss Harris’s background and political career and then look at the dynamics of her place on the ticket with Joe Biden. What does it mean for Democratic unity around issues and approaches? Will the Vice Presidency be a significant factor in voters’ decisions?

I think Harris is a bridge between those in the Biden wing and those on the progressive side of the Democratic Party.

The choice of a Vice President can reinforce voters choosing on other issues such as the economy, the pandemic, and social justice. It can reinforce and bolster them and bring them to the polls.
