The US-Taliban agreement is the first stage in a long process. It is important, but it only establishes the rules of the game over the withdrawal of US forces and the Taliban and the Afghan Government sitting down for negotiations.

With the economic effects, notably the fall in the stock market, you’re seeing agitation — not least from Donald Trump: “Gosh, we’re in trouble here, not only economically but politically.”

People are looking for leadership, and they’re not finding it in Trump.
