Lady Hale delivers the UK Supreme Court’s decision that Boris Johnson’s proroguing of Parliament was unlawful, September 24, 2019

Early Monday morning I spoke with talkRADIO’s Julia Hartley-Brewer about the latest in the Brexit shambles over the UK’s departure from the European Union.

Listen from 8:20 in 0630-0700 Segment

Our focus was on turmoil at the conference of the opposition Labour Party, as the leadership pushed through a motion that maintains the indecision of leader Jeremy Corbyn over Leave or Remain.

But it was our follow-up chat about the UK Supreme Court’s imminent decision on whether Prime Minister Boris Johnson legally prorogued Parliament that is now significant. In the past half-hour, the Supreme Court has ruled that Johnson, in asking the Queen to suspend the chamber, acted unlawfully — a decision with implications not only for Brexit but for the division of powers in a country with no written Constitution.

What gets Labour off the hook is they’re not the last in Pass the Parcel. The Conservatives get that dubious honor next week, where the Prime Minister and Government are going to have to look more organized as they’re caught between Deal and No Deal.

We also discuss another possible crisis which is brewing: whether Donald Trump’s call to Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, seeking an investigation of Democratic rival Joe Biden, might spark impeachment proceedings.
