On Wednesday, Democrat members of the House of Representatives will nominate their candidate to become Speaker in January, following the party’s claim of a majority in November 6 elections.
Despite a weeks-long, high-profile campaign by party elements against her, current Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (pictured) is running unopposed and will likely be endorsed by all but a handful of her colleagues. Then she will take over the Speaker’s chair after a floor vote in the House six weeks from now.
I explained to Monocle 24’s The Briefing this afternoon how Pelosi has prevailed, and the near-term future of the Democrats under her Congressional leadership.
