In our start-the-week chat, I spoke with Julia Hartley-Brewer of talkRADIO about the latest tensions in UK politics, including a possible twist in the Brexit talks.
Listen from 9:41 in 0630-0700 Segment
The European Union is offering a new proposal over the Irish border — in part, to help defend UK Prime Minister Theresa May against foes within her own party — but will it be enough to check wanna-be PM Boris Johnson and his tactics for “No Deal”?
Boris doesn’t want a deal. He doesn’t care if Britain gets everything it wants in a deal with the EU — he’d still be against it. He wants to be Prime Minister and he and some Brexit-ers are now invested politically in a No Deal that brings everything down.
We have a look at the UK’s third party, the Liberal Democrats, to see if they had any possibility of regaining a front-line presence (answer: as Brexit gets worse, that chance improves).
And then it’s a full-and-frank exchange on immigration — i.e. EU citizens — in Britain, with a right-wing newspaper distorting key economic and political facts about the value of immigrants to the UK.
