I joined Monocle 24’s The Briefing on Monday afternoon to examine whether Donald Trump, with his all-caps warning tweet, and Iran’s hardliners — with their threat to close a vital oil route in the Strait of Hormuz — are moving towards war.

My worry is not that we make an immediate move to war. My worry is that if the Iranians — because they are boxed in and on the point of economic collapse — make a move to block the Straits of Hormuz, that is a provocation that the US military will not let stand.
