In our weekly review of US and UK politics, I joined Paul Ross of talkRADIO early Friday to discuss Donald Trump’s claim of victory as a summit with North Korea nears; Trump’s ripping up of the Iran nuclear deal; and the UK Government’s Brexit problem as the House of Lords votes down more proposals in the departure from the European Union.
This is a triumph built on shaky foundations. Donald Trump is playing photo-opportunity checkers while North Korea plays three-dimensional chess.
By offering Trump his moment of glory, by giving him the face-to-face with Kim, North Korea gives Trump the flattery he likes — even a welcome distraction from his domestic troubles — while setting in stone the key issues, like denuclearization, even before the summit takes place.
