I spoke with CNN on Sunday morning about the latest developments around Donald Trump, from the White House’s hiring of new lawyers for the Trump-Russia investigation to his sinking poll numbers:
They are rearranging the deck chairs. About two months ago, around the time of the firing of FBI Director James Comey and the appointment of Special Counsel Robert Mueller, they were setting up this war room of lawyers, they were going to get control of the story….
The problem is that now it’s not just James Comey’s revelations, it’s not just the Special Counsel’s investigation, it’s the furor over the confirmed meeting between Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, and Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort with high-level Russian envoys. And that means the hurdle has risen even higher for these lawyers, both over political and criminal investigations.
There’s also the discussion in splits among pro-Trump outlets, including the journalists v. the polemicists at Fox News: “There are a minority of Americans who will back Trump, come hell or high water, but it becomes difficult to mobilize that minority when the evidence becomes so substantial.”
