In the 3rd University of Birmingham seminar on the June 8 UK General Election, the panel — Jamie Gaskarth, Julian Pänke, and Nick Wheeler — considers the approaches of the main parties towards Britain as a “global power”, including differences in positions on issues such as trade, intervention, the relationship with the US, and nuclear proliferation.
Labour is much more radical in some ways in rethinking Britain’s contribution to the world. They outright reject intervention and they suggest that, if Britain is going to aspire to be a leader in the world, it is going to be through UN peacekeeping and conflict resolution.
