PHOTO: Republican candidate Donald Trump — “Brussels? It’s like living in a hellhole”
I spoke with Australia’s ABC Radio on Monday about the effect of the Brussels attacks on US politics, considering in particular whether Donald Trump can take advantage of them to win the Republican nomination and then the White House.
Trump’s remarks are polarizing. Those Americans who are fearful and see this as a priority — they may swing towards Trump. But I think there are other Americans who don’t like this culture of fear being whipped up, who see it as decisive, who really worry about the fabric of American politics being eroded.
I think, in the short-term, it might help him win the Republican nomination. But I think in the long-term that it will damage him in the race for the White House.
