Iran may have finally reached a nuclear deal with the US and other powers, but the Supreme Leader and his allies are far from happy — they foresee that the agreement will lead to women thinking about equality and gays and lesbians thinking about marriage.

The leader of the Guardian Council, Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati, was direct in the Tehran Friday Prayer:

After the JCPOA [Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action], they [the Americans] will demand that the rights of women and men must be equal; that we must remove the qisas [“retaliation in kind”, part of the Islamic Republic’s criminal code] and that we must approve of gay marriage.

They have many such demands.

Jannati explained that women with rights and same-sex unions are part of a US plot to subvert the Islamic Republic:

The Americans want to infiltrate the decision-shaping and decision-making bodies, one of which is the Parliament. They are trying to infiltrate the Parliament with their agents and infiltrators as much as they can, and they want to do so in a stealth manner so no one is alarmed….

This is what comes after the JCPOA.

The Supreme Leader has set the tone for the campaign, months before this week’s endorsement of the nuclear deal by Parliament and the Guardian Council. His office repeated on Friday that any other negotiations with the US are off-limits because of American deviousness:

Jannati applied Ayatollah Khamenei’s command beyond Iranian society:

They may demand, “You should sever your relations with Syria, Lebanese Hezbollah, and Iraq because they are all terrorists.” They have, of course, said many such nonsensical things.

But thanks to the leadership of the Supreme Leader, we resisted to the last and will preserve our relations with all Islamic revolutionaries to the last drop of our blood.
