Iran has rejected an Associated Press report, using two unnamed diplomats, that it has moved closer to a nuclear deal with the 5+1 Powers.

On Friday, the AP excitedly declared a breakthrough, saying that Iran had agreed arrangements to ship enriched uranium to Russia for conversion to fuel plates and rods.

However, the claims of the diplomats were sketchy, with no information on the amount of uranium that would be transferred. They also said little on the main issue of dispute between Iran and the 5+1 — the number and level of centrifuges that would be allowed for Tehran’s uranium enrichment program.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said on Saturday, “No agreement has been reached yet on any of the issues during nuclear talks.”

Afkham said “politically-motivated” speculation by certain foreign media outlets are aimed at “harming the atmosphere of the talks and complicating any settlement of the [nuclear] issue”.

Iran and the 5+1 Powers will hold their next round of talks, at deputy level, on Monday.

In November 2013, the two sides agreed on interim arrangements; however, they have twice failed to reach a comprehensive settlement by the deadline and have extended the talks. The latest extension runs to July 1.
