Fighters of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) have reportedly hijacked a Turkish military truck containing 400 kg (880 pounds) of ammonium nitrate.

The PKK force struck in the Sipoli District of the Sirnak Province near the Iraqi border. They transferred the ammonium nitrate into another truck, releasing the driver of the original vehicle.

Ankara’s authorities have warned, despite the ongoing Kurdish “peace process”, of a rise in PKK attacks on Turkish military targets in the east and southeast of the country.

The Ankara Courthouse is the latest recipient of an envelope with suspicious yellow powder.

The delivery was made on Monday. The Ankara Governor’s office said no biological or radiological substances were found in an initial examination; however, further tests are being conducted.

Last weekend, envelopes with the powder were sent to five Western consulates in Istanbul. On Monday, about 25 consulate employees were released after precautionary tests.
