At least 34 people have been killed and dozens injured by two bombings in and near Iraq’s capital Baghdad.

A suicide bomber exploded a Humvee at a checkpoint south of Baghdad killing at least 24.

The checkpoint was near the town of Jurf al-Sakhar, around 60 km (37 miles) from Baghdad, recaptured by Iraqi forces and Shia militia from the Islamic State last weekend.

Later, 10 people died in a car bombing near shops and restaurants in the Karrada district of downtown Baghdad.
