At least 10 Egyptian soldiers were killed and 35 wounded by a bomb in the North Sinai early Wednesday.

In Abboud in northern Cairo, a bomb attack on a checkpoint wounded four policemen.

The Sinai blast targeted a military vehicle on the Al-Arish to Rafah road, as the soldiers were going on vacation.

The armed forces assert they will carry on the war against black terrorism…purge Egypt and secure its people from treacherous violence,” Egypt’s army spokesman, Colonel Ahmed Ali, said.

Since the overthrow of President Morsi on July 3, attacks on Egyptian facilities and security forces have spiked in the Sinai, killed more than 100 people.

In September, the Egyptian military launched an offensive across the peninsula in an effort to kill and detain Islamists and overrun their positions. Dozens of insurgents have been killed, but there have also been accusations of heavy-handed treatment of civilians by the security forces.
