Egypt: Judicial Body Calls For Dissolution of Muslim Brotherhood

Egypt’s State Commissioners Authority, advising th interim Ggovernment on legal issues, has recommended the dissolution of the Muslim Brotherhood and called for the group’s national headquarters in Cairo to be closed.

The recommendations were made in accordance with a 2002 law which prohibits non-government organisations and institutions from forming paramilitary groups.

The recommendation is not binding on the Government; however, interim Prime Minister Hazem El-Beblawi has already suggested a ban on the Brotherhood, the major force behind deposed President Mohamed Morsi.
