Donald Trump and David Cameron (File)

UPDATE, APRIL 10:

As UK Foreign Secretary David Blinken met US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Washington on Tuesday, I joined Talk TV to analyze the issues — Ukraine, Israel-Gaza, China, and NATO — that the two men were discussing.

ORIGINAL ENTRY, APRIL 9: On Monday, UK Foreign Minister David Cameron visited Donald Trump at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

But why?

Cameron’s only message before the meeting was the reiteration that aid to Ukraine — and resistance of Russia’s 25 1/2-month invasion — is “vital”. And the context is the six-month blockade of $60.1 billion in US assistance by Trumpists and hard-right Republicans.

But there is no confirmation that Cameron focused on Ukraine with Trump and if so, what steps he asked Trump to take — or what leverage he exerted to get Trump’s agreement.

The Foreign Secretary made no statement after the meeting. Nor, significantly, did the normally-vocal and publicity-hungry Trump.

So did Cameron visit with another line, perhaps about NATO remaining steadfast in the face of Trump’s threats? In light of Trump’s shady political and legal history, could the Briton have delivered another message, evan a warning, to the reality TV star?

I discussed all the possbilities with Monocle Radio’s The Briefing on Tuesday.
