UPDATE 0710 GMT:

The Trump Administration is seeking the swift resumption of Russian gas supplies to Europe via Ukraine, confirm US, European, and Ukrainian officials.

The issue was discussed at the Kremlin with Donald Trump’s envoys, real estate developer Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, during talks on September 5. The Russians offered the envoys a series of deals worth tens of billions of dollars.

Witkoff and Kushner proposed that the Russian gas be sold through an American intermediary, circumventing European sanctions with lucrative opportunities for US investors. Russia’s revenues would be deposited in an escrow account in a third country.

The officials also confirmed reports that the Trump Administration is considering a Kremlin proposal for the renewal of the Nord Stream gas pipeline from Russia to Germany.

ORIGINAL ENTRY: Ukraine’s air raid alert system was hacked late Sunday, with people receiving false warnings of nuclear and chemical attacks.

Journalists received notifications on their phones from the officially supported Air Alert app. One of the false warnings, in Russian, said, “Hi! A nuclear alert is about to go off all across Ukraine! Don’t worry, the Oreshnik is on its way.!

Air raid alerts also sounded in streets across the country, including the Zakarpattia region in western Ukraine.

Ukraine’s Air Force posted, “It is likely that the ‘Air Alert’ app has been compromised by the enemy. There is no radiation threat! Please stay calm and follow our updates on our (Telegram) channel.”

In the capital the Digital Transformation Ministry recommended using the Kyiv Digital app to stay aware of air alerts.

Several regional governors also notified residents that the system was hacked and that there was no threat of attacks. “Currently, the situation in the oblast is calm. Reports indicate a cyberattack on the notification app,” said Ivano-Frankivsk Governor Svitlana Onyshchuk.
