EA-Clinton Institute VideoCast: Ireland and the Making of America — The Scots-Irish Immigrants

For the 250th anniversary of the US, UCD’s Clinton Institute and EA WorldView have produced Ireland and the Making of America, an 8-episode VideoCast.

In the second episode, historian Kevin Kenny of New York University speaks with Liam Kennedy and Scott Lucas about the waves of Irish emigration that transformed both Ireland and the United States.

The story of Irish migration to America is often told through the Great Famine of the 1840s, but it began long before and continued long after. Kevin takes us through shift from Scots-Irish to Irish Catholic migration to the Famine and post-famine exodus from Ireland to changing immigration patterns in the 20th century.

Why did millions leave Ireland? How did migration became part of everyday life? And how does Irish America continue to evolve today?
