ORIGINAL ENTRY: Russia is threatening more mass missile and drone strikes on civilians in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv.
The Russian Foreign Ministry declared on Monday that there will be attacks on Ukraine’s “decision-making centers and command posts”. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov informed US Secretary of State Marco Rubio of the threat, warning of “systematic and consistent strikes”.
On Sunday, the Russians killed four civilians and injured more than 100. Around 90 missiles and 600 drones were launched towards Ukraine, almost all of them targeting Kyiv.
The Foreign Ministry called on foreign citizens, including diplomats, to leave Kyiv. Ukrainian civilians were told to stay away from “military and administrative infrastructure”.
The Russians are using the pretext of retaliation for a Ukrainian strike on the occupied Luhansk region in the east of the country. Moscow claims 21 people were killed in a college dormitory, while Kyiv says it targeted a Russian drone command facility.
The UN says Russia has killed at least 15,850 Ukrainian civilians, including 791 children, during its 51-month full-scale invasion. The real figures are much higher, given the lack of independent verification of thousands of deaths, including during Russia’s siege of Mariupol in southeast Ukraine in spring 2022.
Diplomats, including those from the European Union and G7 nations, said they would not leave Kyiv.
EU Ambassador Katarina Mathernova posted:
Russia again threatens diplomats & foreigners, urging us to leave Kyiv. But we are not going anywhere!
Russia wants fear. Panic. Isolation of Ukraine. It will not work.
is not going anywhere. We stay in Kyiv. We stay w/ Ukraine. pic.twitter.com/mTH0kVqjUi
