EA on Al Jazeera’s Inside Story, Times Radio, and Poland’s TVP World: Trump’s Mad, Bad, and Dangerous Foreign Policy

UPDATE 1627 GMT:

EA’s David Dunn speaks with the hard-right, pro-Trump outlet GB “News” about the National Security Strategy’s confirmation of the Trumpists as “an unreliable ally”.

David notes the timing of the NSS, showing Trump’s “frustration” that Ukraine will not give up more territory to Russian invaders. He highlights how Trump abuses Europe with language that he would not use with Vladimir Putin, China’s Xi Jinping, or North Korea’s Kim Jong-un.

This is a topsy-turvy view of the world. He criticizes historical partners in NATO and gives other people a complete pass.

He takes apart the GB “News” presentation of Trump’s demands as “common sense” while noting European leaders will be cautious in their response to the reality TV star.

And he hit backs at the suggestion that Trump, unlike Europe, is just pursuing “peace” in Ukraine.

Donald Trump would have forced Churchill to surrender in 1940 to stop the fighting, to stop the killing.

The security of a sovereign Ukraine is more important than an immediate ceasefire.

UPDATE, DEC 9:

EA’s David Dunn joined Dublin NewsTalk’s Pat Kenny Show on Monday for a 16-minute analysis of the dangers of the Trump Administration’s National Security Strategy.

He notes that “the language is clearly racist” with its reference to the “civilizational erasure” of Europe.

But fundamentally this is a rejection of America’s role in the world over the last 80 years.

Previous versions of this document have talked about how American is stronger with like-minded allies who share the same values, who promote democracy, human rights, and liberalism around the world.

This document says, “We’re ditching all of that” to make money for American corporations and the Trump family by bullying allies.

David notes that the document “bears the marks” of Vice President J.D. Vance, with his diatribes against Europe and praise of far-right parties, and of Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller.

With its “Great Replacement” conspiracy theory, this is “an ethno-nationalist, racist understanding of what America’s interests should be”.

UPDATE, DEC 7:

I spoke with India’s WION on Sunday about why the Trump Administration’s National Security Strategy considers the European Union — rather than Russia and its invasion of Ukraine — as the threat to the US.

I explain how race, far-right ideas, and profits, rather than “strategy”, are the motivations for the documents. And I note that because of this, entire areas of the world — including India — are left out.

Given this, how should other regions and other countries respond to the Trump abandonment of alliances?

UPDATE 1538 GMT:

I joined Poland’s TVP World on Saturday morning for a 14-minute dissection of the Trump Administration’s National Security Strategy.

I don’t hold back in calling out the white supremacy and racism, including the “Great Replacement” conspiracy theory of non-whites over whites in European countries.

This is a racial view of the world.

We need to be very honest with the word “race” because the American media is shy about using it with Trump.

This is an embrace of the rhetoric of far-right activists and far-right parties in Europe which has been in place for some time: this idea that white people by those who have a different race or religion.

I explain how the strategy is not really a strategy but a Trumpist worldview of exploiting the rest of the world for personal profit.

And so, I note, there are no more alliances for the US Government while Trump is in the White House.

ORIGINAL ENTRY, DEC 6:

On Friday the White House unveiled a National Security Strategy which, promoting racist conspiracy theories and far-right political parties, effectively abandoned long-time US allies.

Rather than setting out a strategy, as US Administrations have since the early Cold War, the Trump camp rails against democratic systems, particularly in Europe, as well as against immigrants and refugees. It pushes a foreign policy based on “business opportunities” for its true allies — cronies and sycophants of Donald Trump rather than NATO, the European Union, and other regional and international organizations — and declares American domination of the Western Hemisphere under a “Trump Corollary to the Monroe Doctine”.
