Tim takes me back to a sentiment I expressed more than 20 years ago, in Betrayal of Dissent:

We are beyond “Right” and “Left”. We are beyond the obsolete labels. We are beyond the equation of a Right for America and a Left against it.

When I wrote that conclusion, I did not anticipate the Trump era. Yet I feel that amid his discord, wannabe authoritarianism, and destruction of the legal, the responsible, and the decent, the approach is needed more than ever.
