EA on WION: Mr Trump, The UN Still Matters
I joined Poland’s TVP World on Wednesday to evaluate Donald Trump’s abrupt shift to support of Ukraine against Russia’s 44-month full-scale invasion.
I note Trump’s statement, for the first time, that Ukraine can “win”. I highlight his declaration that NATO countries can down Russian drones and warplanes in their airspace.
But I caution that Trump “spins like a weathervane”. I note that he and Secretary of State Marco Rubio later hedged his statements. I observe that Trump is still calling on Europe to “go first” on toughened sanctions on Russia.
The key factor, I suggest, could be Trump Administration officials and how willing they are to work with Ukraine and Europe on military supplies, security guarantees, and sanctions.
