Iran’s authorities have executed another participant in the “Woman, Life, Freedom” protests from September 2022.

The protests for rights and justice were sparked by the death in police custody of Mahsa Amini, 22, who was seized and beaten by “morality police” in Tehran over “inappropriate attire”.

Early Saturday, Mehran Bahramian (pictured) was hanged in Isfahan in central Iran despite torture allegations and pleas from human rights groups. Hours earlier, his family were summoned for a final visit.

Authorities refused to turn over Bahramian’s body, burying it in Isfahan’s Bagh Rezvan cemetery without a ceremony. His mother and sisters were taken under guard to the burial site.

Iran’s leadership has executed at least 10 Woman, Life, Freedom protesters.

Bahramian and his brother Fazel were convicted by the Samirom Revolutionary Court of “enmity against God”. Authorities claim they were involved in the killing of a member of paramilitary Basij.

Their brother Morad Bahramian was slain by security forces during the protests.

During unrest in Samirom in November 2022, security forces killed at least three people. Their 40-day memorial in January 2023 turned into a mass protest in which Basij member Mohsen Rezaei was killed, prompting a wave of arrests.

The Bahramian brothers were detained 10 days later and held in solitary confinement at a Revolutionary Guards detention center in Dolatabad in Isfahan Province. Relatives say Mehran suffered broken ribs and a ruptured eardrum under interrogation, while Fazel sustained severe head and facial injuries.

The Bahramian family were pressured to stay silent. Some shut down social media accounts.
