EA on Pat Kenny Show: Trump’s Authoritarianism Targets Universities and International Students

UPDATE, JUNE 11:

EA’s David Dunn speaks with Turkey’s TRT World about the latest developments in Los Angeles, notably the Trump Administration’s attempt to suppress authorities in the state of California:

There is no prospect of an early end to this, given the two sets of provocations by the Trump Administration: sending enforcement officers to round up thousands of people everyday, causing a huge concern in the areas where these detentions take place, and — despite the assurances of Californian officials that they have contained the protests — sending in federalized National Guard troops and US Marines.

This, in many people’s eyes, is a desire to stoke the violence.

ORIGINAL ENTRY, JUNE 10: In a 26-minute VideoCast, I joined Times Radio’s Trump Report on Tuesday to analyze the significance of the Trump Administration’s deployment of military units against largely-peaceful protests in Los Angeles.

I emphasize the catalyst for the deployment — the Trump camp’s detentions and “disappearances” of migrants and asylum-seekers. I consider the protests, with only two people arrested on Saturday night for assaults on the police as Trump overruled State and local officials to — probably without legal basis — order the mobilization of 4,000 National Guard.

And I get to the wider reason for the Trump maneuver: the militarization of America to reinforce his quest for a rule unchecked by the States, the courts, others institution — or the American people.

They are not operating in accordance with the Constitution. They are not operating in accordance with the law. They are not operating in accordance with precedent because this is the unprecedented of a power grab.
