Friday’s Coverage: Trump Gives India Waiver to Buy Russia’s Oil

UPDATE 0840 GMT:

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says the Trump Administration is considering lifting more sanctions on Russian oil, a day after it gave India a 30-day waiver for purchases from Moscow.

The US-Israel war on Iran has led to a 30% spike in global oil prices this week, with a barrel now costing more than $92. Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, through which 25% of the world’s maritime oil passes, has dropped up to 90%.

Bessent said, “We may unsanction other Russian oil. There are hundreds of millions of barrels of sanctioned crude on the water. And in essence, by unsanctioning them, Treasury can create a supply.”

Vladimir Putin’s top financial Kirill Dmitriev, who has collaborated with Donald Trump’s envoy on an ultimatum to Ukraine, posted:

ORIGINAL ENTRY: At least seven civilians have been murdered in Ukraine’s second city Kharkiv amid Russia’s firing of 29 missiles and 480 drones across the country.

Victims were found under rubble after a ballistic missile hit a multi-story residential building in the city’s Kyivskyi district. Another 10 people were injured, including two children.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region in south-central Ukraine, one man was slain.

Explosions were first heard in Kyiv around 1:30 a.m. “Air defense forces are operating in the capital. Stay in shelters,” said Mayor Vitalii Klitschko said.

A countrywide air raid alert was issued around 3:00 a.m.

Explosions were reported in the Black Sea port city of Odesa, as the Air Force warned of several groups of drones approaching the city.

Neighboring Poland scrambled fighter jets to protect its airspace.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky posted:

There must be a response from partners to these savage strikes against life….Russia has not abandoned its attempts to destroy Ukraine’s residential and critical infrastructure, and therefore support must continue.
