EA-Times Radio VideoCast: Russia’s “Great Failure” in Ukraine Leaves Putin Playing For Time
US, Israel, and Iran: What Kind of War Is This Becoming?
I joined Poland’s TVP World on Thursday to evaluate connections between Ukraine’s resistance of Russian invasion, Europe’s security, and the US-Israel War on Iran.
In the 14-minute analysis with Sascha Fahrbach, I begin with the suggestion of Finnish President Alexander Stubb that Europe’s assistance for the US in the Strait of Hormuz, closed by Iran, in return for the Trump Administration’s guaranteed assistance for Ukraine.
It is a a great idea but I doubt it is viable.
The Trump folks’ priority right now is not to do anything to offend Russia in terms of the so-called “talks” [over Moscow’s invasion], even though those talks have effectively been suspended.
I look at NATO’s position amid the Trump camp’s instability and chaos. Then I turn to the Gulf, explaining why an international force for the Strait of Hormuz is only likely if a ceasefire is established.
As for Europe’s role, I explain, “The fundamental is that Europe and the European Union don’t have much leverage here.”
And I note how EU talks with China are part of a realignment in a world “where the Trump camp doesn’t believe in alliances”.
