Ukraine Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov

EA-War and Politics 24 VideoCast: With No Imminent Ceasefire in Ukraine, How Do You Pressure Russia?

I joined Times Radio’s Philip Ingram on Friday to analyze the latest situation in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, including Moscow’s loss of territory last month.

The Ukrainians regained areas in the Zaporizhzhia region in the south, outpacing Russia’s assaults in the Donetsk region in the east, after Kyiv convinced Elon Musk to cut the Russians’ use of Starlink terminals.

I evaluate important shifts of personnel in the Zelensky Government, notably Mykhailo Fedorov as Defense Minister and Kyrolo Budanov as Presidential Chief of Staff. These have both improved effectiveness of defense and dealt with the problem of corruption.

I also consider the effect on Ukraine’s defense of the US-Israel war on Iran, from the positive — Kyiv’s provision of interceptors to the Americans, hopefully in return for the Trump Administration’s support of its political and military positions — to the negative of the US easing sanctions on Russia.
