EA on TVP World and Pakistan TV: Ukraine, Europe, and Trump — The Showdown Over Security Guarantees

I joined Ukraine’s War and Politics 24 on Monday for a 35-minute deep dive into Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, beginning with whether Vladimir Putin has again overplayed his hand with excessive demands for territory and for Kyiv’s perpetual weakness.

I consider the Kremlin’s latest error: disinformation over an “attack on Putin’s residence” by Ukrainian drones has finally been rejected by Donald Trump, who — for now — has refocused on Russia’s killing of Ukrainian civilians.

Meanwhile, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders are meeting Trump’s envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Paris. They are hoping to get US acceptance of proposals to put before the Kremlin, as well as confirmation of security guarantees and the process for Ukrainian reconstruction.

I also consider how Russia will view the Trump Administration’s kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, given that the Kremlin has tried and failed for four years to seize and possibly kill Zelensky and his ministers.
